Letters, memos, notes and receipts relating primarily to the administration and operation of the Beaverbrook Art Gallery. Subjects include: R.A. Tweedie's resignation as secretary and the appointment of Miss Helen Savage to the position; disagreement between Tweedie and Beaverbrook over the surrender of the former's post; Tweedie's resignation as secretary to Friends of the Beaverbrook Art Gallery; electricity costs; Lucile Pillow's visit and the proposed visit of Canada's top advertising executives to the gallery, UNB and Camp Gagetown. Also discussed: Beaverbrook's gift of his watch to Wardell; the publication of Lord Beaverbrook's book, "Courage"; an invitation to attend a meeting of the Chignecto Canal Committee and Wardell's outrage that students did not attend Convocation. The file contains a copy of a poem "Wood Green Election Song" written about Beverley Baxter.

Michael Wardell joined the Beaverbrook newspapers in London in 1926 after a career in the military. With the outbreak of the Second World War he rejoined the army and finally retired with the rank of Brigadier in 1946. He returned to Fleet Street and eventually became vice-chairman to the Beaverbrook organization. In 1950 he came to Fredericton and bought the Daily Gleaner.
